Ignacio Sánchez-Cuenca

Chief Researcher

Ignacio Sánchez-Cuenca is Professor of Political Science at CEACS and Associate Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He holds a doctorate in Sociology from the same university and is Doctor Miembro of the Instituto Juan March. He has been Rice Associate Professor at YaleUniversity, Associate Professor in the Political Science Department of the Universidad Pompeu Fabra, Visiting Scholar at New York University, and Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department of the University of Salamanca. Amongst other works, his most recent publications include: La Derrota de ETA (with José María Calleja, 2006), Teoría de Juegos (2003), ETA contra el Estado (2001), and Los efectos de la acción de gobierno en el voto durante la etapa socialista (with Belén Barreiro, 2000). He is co-editor (with José María Maravall) of Controlling Governments (Cambridge, 2008).

Paloma Aguilar

Paloma Aguilar

Paloma Aguilar Fernández teaches Political Science at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia in Madrid. She was Tinker Professor in the Political Science Department of the University of Madison, Wisconsin, during the 2001-2002 Fall semester. She has published Memory and Amnesia. The Role of the spanish Civil War in the Transition to Democracy (Bergham Books, New York, 2001; also published in spanish and Greek). She has coedited the volume The Politics of Memory. Transitional Justice in Democratizing Societies (with Alexandra Barahona de Brito and Carmen González-Enríquez, Oxford University Press, Oxford, New York, 2001; also published in spanish and Portuguese). She has published in journals as Democratization, West European Politics, Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas, Matériaux pour l’histoire de notre temps, History and Memory, Ricerche di Storia Política and Revista Internacional de Filosofía Política. Her main research fields are nationalism, transitions to democracy, memories of violence and repression, legacies of authoritarian regimes, transitional justice mechanisms, and political violence.

Luis de la Calle Robles

Luis de la Calle Robles

Researcher

Luis de la Calle Robles is a Ph.D. candidate at the Center for Advanced Social Sciences of the Juan March Institute, from where he received his MA.   He has a BA in Sociology from the University of Salamanca. His work focuses on the study of political violence in contexts where nationalist sentiments prevail. His dissertation aims at explaining the differential use of violence by Western nationalist movements in their quest for internal devolution of power. Currently he is a research student at the European University Institute, Florence.

Macarena Lescornez

Macarena Lescornez

Research Assistant

Macarena Lescornez has a BA in Journalism from the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Chile and a M.A. in International Affairs from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. She has worked for news media in Chile (El Mercurio, La Tercera, La Hora, Canal 13), USA (The Miami Herald) and Spain (EFE News Agency).
