Vocal Transylvania URL:
In 1904, Béla Bartók heard the popular song The Red Apple has Fallen in the Mud performed by a peasant girl from Transylvania. This chance encounter prompted him to scour this region of present-day Romania collecting traditional songs, which he would subsequently include in his music. In this concert, traditional songs performed by Romanian voices will be presented, together with Bartók’s piano works that were based on them. Some of the historical field recordings the composer made will also be heard.
