An artist known for his facet as a portrait painter, Hernán Cortés (Cádiz, 1953) studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville and completed his training at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Some of his most famous paintings include a series of portraits of members of the royal family, as well as famous politicians–King Juan Carlos I and Queen Letizia and several former presidents and ministers–and especially the polyptych of the seven fathers of the 1978 Constitution for the Congreso de los Diputados (Lower House of Parliament). He is also known for his portraits of figures from the business and art worlds such as José Luis Sampedro, Jorge Guillén, Dámaso Alonso, Norman Foster, Alicia Koplowitz and Amancio Ortega.

He is currently painting a portrait of King Philip VI. He has been a member of the Real Patronato (Royal Board of Trustees) of the Prado Museum since 2013.

To conclude, Antonio San José will ask Hernán Cortés to come up with three proposals that, in his opinion, may help to improve society. The conversation will be accompanied by the projection of videos and images relating to our guest’s career.
