Intellectual Autobiography

María Victoria Atencia

13 October 2016
Image of the Lecture

A recipient of the Premio Internacional de Poesía Federico García Lorca in 2010 and the Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana in 2014, the poet María Victoria Atencia presents a journey through her life and intellectual career, in conversation with the academic and fellow poet Clara Janés.

Critics have identified femininity as transcendence and the link with the mysticism of Saint John of the Cross as characteristic of her poetry. Her age situates her in the generación del 50, though stylistically she is related to the Novísimos and the Poesía del Conocimiento, and close to Rafael León, Vicente Aleixandre and Antonio Gamoneda, among others, with whom she shared a friendship and literary interests.

SAZÓN
"Ya está todo en sazón. Me siento hecha,

profunda la raíz, y tiendo en vuelo
la rama cierta, en ti, de su cosecha.
