Along the eight conferences in this series coordinated by Luis Gago, we will study the lyrical genre from its origins until our days, analyzing the specific traits that determine its singularity when compared to other musical and dramatic genres. Following a chronological order, seven specialists will speak about some of the most prominent opera authors and their most significant works, finalizing with a reflexion about the current validity of the genre and the challenges it faces. In each case, we will analyze the history of the composition, the main musical themes and their relationship with the literary works that inspired them.
