Queen Kelly (USA, 1928) directed by Erich von Stroheim, starring Gloria Swanson. (100 minutes)
Synopsis: Vicente Molina Foix
Queen Kelly, the last film directed by Erich von Stroheim, was produced by Joseph P. Kennedy (father of the US president) and the actress Gloria Swanson, who starred in the title role. Its baroque action is set in a Central European kingdom, with several hilarious scenes much enjoyed by Sacher-Masoch. The actress’ objections to its audacity and the introduction of movies with sound meant that Stroheim was unable to complete it, but a version was screened using photographs of the truncated ending.
