Seventh Heaven, directed by Frank Borzage, showed the sublime love between two marginated beings, a a sewer cleaner who lives in an attic, "close to the stars", and an abandoned girl. André Breton made this film a fetish for the surrealists. He created the "ideal couple" with Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrel, who between 1927 and 1933 played a dozen films together.
