Archival history: Francisco Ruiz Ramón's personal library was owned by him throughout his life, until his children decided to donate it to the Fundación Juan March in 2015.

Institutional history/biographical sketch:: Francisco Ruiz Ramón (Játiva, Valencia, 1930 – Tampa, USA, 2015) was a playwright and a lecturer and researcher of literature, specialising in theatre. He was a university reader at Oslo University (Norway) between 1957 and 1963; an assistant and associate lecturer at the University of Puerto Rico (1963-1968); ending up in the USA as a lecturer at various universities (Purdue, Chicago and Vanderbilt). He was also a visiting lecturer at other universities in Spain (Salamanca, Córdoba, Murcia…), as well as in Milan, Amberes and Montreal, among others. His two-volume history of Spanish theatre has been a fundamental reference work for anyone studying or interested in theatre, in addition to his publications on classic authors from the Golden Age and more contemporary authors, as well as his numerous collaborations with specialist journals. He was also a successful playwright and received various prizes, including the Puerto Rico Theatre Prize for "Juego de espejos" (1963) and the Valle-Inclán Prize for "El Inquisidor" (2001).

Scope and Content: Francisco Ruiz Ramón's personal library consists of around 2,000 documents, including books and journals.

Evaluation, selection, removal: Given their historical interest, all the documents are to be preserved permanently, in accordance with Law 16/1985 of 25 June on Spanish Historical Heritage.
