Surrealism, as such, formally emerged during the first third of the twentieth century, although it was already immersed in a long tradition of a form of creative perception that goes back to the Middle Ages. This series, which accompanies the exhibition Surrealists before Surrealism, inaugurating the Fundación Juan March’s art season, will analyse some of its main sources—dreams, ghosts, demons, etc. —, emphasizing the retroactive use of art history in the formal appearance of the movement, as well as its expression in the theatre and in film.
