The Cheat (1915, USA) by Cecil B. DeMille (59’)
Presentation: Antonio Giménez-Rico

An upper class lady, who has gambled away a sum of money earmarked for charity, accepts the financial aid of a rich Japanese man, but subsequently refuses to give herself over to him and kills him. Banned in various North-American states, its use of light and shadows to create disturbing atmospheres marked a turning point in the aesthetics of cinematography.

On Saturday, the video of the presentation recorded the day before will be shown.
