Saturday ConcertsFamily concerts 2019 (I)Music and painting: Connecting the senses

Karina Azizova and Fernando Palacios

Works by M. Mussorgsky, G. Crumb, E. Granados, G. Ligeti, C. Debussy, S. Reich, N. Kapustin, I. Albéniz and O. Golijov

Music and painting are very different artistic disciplines. From the sense that conditions them—hearing and sight—to the dimension in which they take place—time and space—they are opposing arts. However, some creative elements are transferred from one discipline to the other: painters give rhythm to their configurations on the canvas, while composers speak of the colours of their sounds. This concert explores the aesthetic interactions between music and painting by suggesting a parallel contemplation, a fusion of sight with hearing that reveals the interrelation between both disciplines.
