Concert/Premieres and (Re)premieresPremieres and Re-Premieres (110). Conrado del Campo and Shostakovich: Two quintets, two wars

Brodsky Quartet and Martin Roscoe

Works by D. Shostakovich and C. del Campo

A teacher of several generations of composers, Conrado del Campo was a crucial figure in Spanish musical creation during the first half of the twentieth century. In his vast catalogue of works, which includes compositions in all genres, his chamber music stands out and his fifteen string quartets are particularly brilliant. With a particular stylistic approach, based on post-Romanticism of German roots, Del Campo broke away from the prevailing tendencies of his time. However, the majority of his works are unknown today in virtue of their high technical difficulty and the fact that they remained unpublished, such as his only Piano Quintet, written in the context of the Civil War, which is presented for the first time for a modern-day audience.
