Lucila Izquierdo Rocha holds a Bachelor of Chemical Sciences and a Diploma of Nuclear Engineering. She worked as a researcher at the Junta de Energía Nuclear and, subsequently, at the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) from 1967 until her retirement in 2012.
She has worked extensively in the field of energy, especially teaching courses in the areas of nuclear security and radiation protection. She is the author of a large number of research papers. In 1992, the magazine Vogue named her as one of the thirty most influential women in Spain.
She has been a volunteer at the Fundación Energía sin Fronteras since 2004 and is currently President of its Board of Directors.
