Ariette “Vents furieux, tristes tempêtes” from La Princesse de Navarre, by Jean-Philippe Rameau

Titled “The Parisian Academy”, this program reconstructs a hypothetical private concert performed in a French salon during the mid-eighteenth century, interspersing harpsichord pieces, vocal arias and movements from sonatas. This ariette comes from La Princesse de Navarre, composed in 1745 by Jean-Philippe Rameau to a text by Voltaire to celebrate the marriage of the (24th) Dauphin of France to the Infanta Maria Teresa Rafaela of Spain.
