“Transforming Pain into Beauty”

Paloma Pedrero

Poetics and Theatre

The playwright Paloma Pedrero presents herself as a theatrical character to describe her private life and her career, which are bound together as she herself assures “my poetics and my life are closely linked”. In characterising herself she describes herself as a tough, courageous, hardworking, passionate, independent, brave woman, committed to social injustices and the situation of women. The discovery of writing as a profession and the power of the theatre to transform gave her life direction. She defends the therapeutic and healing qualities of theatre, and thus creates her characters from empathy and understanding.
