Juan José Mantecón's Atardecer

Samuel Diz, guitar

Atardecer, by Juan José Mantecón

Juan José Mantecón is one of the most outstanding composers of the so-called Generación del 27. Born in Vigo in 1895, he is also remembered as an important music critic, writing under the pseudonym Juan del Brezo. In 1930 he composed Atardecer, a guitar version of Danza del atardecer (original for piano). This work marks Mantecón’s unique contribution to the guitar repertory, which had been enriched by composers such as Falla, Esplá and Antonio José during the same period. The Juan José Mantecón Bequest is preserved at the Fundación Juan March Library.
