From Renaixença to Noucentisme: vocal music

Marta Mathéu, soprano and Albert Guinovart, piano

Works by J. Manén, R. Lamote de Grignon, F. Mompou, J. Serra, E. Toldrà, and E. Granados

Noucentisme was a cultural movement that aspired to create a very meticulous form of art, based on a classical, elitist and cosmopolitan tradition. Its “civil compromise” would have an influence on the flourishing of song in Catalonia, associated with the revival of Catalan as a literary language. The works of Eduard Toldrà, considered the founder of the Catalan Lied, stand out in this context, as do those of Mompou, Manén and Lamote de Grignon.
