Abelard and Héloïse, The Story of a Passion

Carme Riera

The writer, academic and professor of Spanish Literature, Carme Riera, presents a journey through the iconographical representations of Medieval history and the legend of the lovers Abelard and Héloïse, whose ill-fated love affair is preserved in their correspondence and in Abelard’s autobiography–in the form of a letter to a friend–or the Historia Calamitatum. The veracity of the letters and the character and education of the protagonists are some of the issues that will be discussed through an analysis of the literary work.
