Maria Luisa of Spain and Louis I of Etruria amassed a vast musical library, today preserved in Parma. Prominent in this library are songs. This genre was reinforced at the end of the eighteenth century, associated with the generalisation of musical performance in domestic settings, the spreading of keyboard instruments and, above all, the acceptance of an idea that acclaimed song as the expression of feelings.
