Femme fatale, vamp, flapper and other stereotypes of women in silent films
Sonia García López presents the silent film series
The film historian and lecturer Sonia García López introduces and presents the new silent-film cycle at the Fundación Juan March for this 2016-2017 season. Through the analysis of the socio-cultural context of the first third of the twentieth century, she places particular emphasis on the literary and artistic origin of the femme fatale, the vamp as a construction of the media and the model of the new woman represented by the flapper or "It girl" from the 1920s onwards. In a fictional guise, the different films in the cycle bear witness to the situations of injustice that women went through in striving for equality with men.
