Scriabin and colour

Eduardo Fernández, piano

Preludes by Aleksandr Scriabin

Alexander Scriabin’s output is marked by the phenomenon of synaesthesia. According to the composer (influenced by Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and, especially, theosophical mysticism), the mission of art was to help to awaken a new religious consciousness. In particular, sounds, colours and aromas should converge to generate a mystic experience. The lighting design of this concert, based on the correspondences between notes and colours described by the composer, bathes the whole auditorium and aims to reconstruct Scriabin’s sinaesthetic vision.
