Raf Mur Ros's Empty Rooms
Raf Mur Ros: Empty Rooms, from [Holy Array]
In “Empty Rooms”, the first work in the cycle [Holy Array], Raf Mur Ros explores the impossibility of the existence of absolute silence. The point of departure for the piece is the recording of three different and intimate areas of “silence” in the composer’s life: his bedroom, his study and a sound laboratory. Based on the analysis of the small disturbances that make the existence of total silence impossible, temporal and electronic lines are generated that are combined with these three realms of relative silence. A third material, electronic and sinusoidal, is then added, which penetrates into space in the form of sub-bass vibration, on the thresholds of human hearing.
