The Seven Sages of Greece

Carlos García Gual

Writer and translator Carlos García Gual, Emeritus Professor of Greek Philology, presents the seven wise men of ancient Greece, heirs to the mythical tradition of the poets and the Muses but who broke with this tradition to seek truth and justice in the cities and through reason and calculation, that is, logics and logisms. Thales of Miletus, Solon of Athens, Bias of Priene, Pythagus of Mytilene, Cleobulus of Lindos, Quilon of Sparta and Periander of Corinth were citizens of prominent poleis or city-states of the sixth century BC, open to trade and exchange of ideas.
