“Poetry allows me to create my life”

Antonio Lucas

Poetics and Poetry

For the poet Antonio Lucas, "One approaches poetry in search of that wealth of astonishment". Lucas describes the impact of and his bewilderment at reading the Generación del 27, Rilke, Rimbaud and Cernuda, an Irrationalist tradition that, together with Surrealism, shaped his early career. Reflecting on his works, he points to an evolution towards a more dialogical and mundane style of writing, more mature, which reflects the link with his profession as a journalist. The author then reads and comments on several poems from his anthology, among which is that dedicated to Lautréamont and various poems inspired by personal circumstances and experiences, concluding with the unpublished poem "Tregua" –read in public for the first time.
