The Spanish dance

Ballet Nacional de España (Antonio Najarro, director, Inmaculada Salomón, Francisco Velasco, Miriam Mendoza and José Manuel Benitez, dancers); Alejandro Bustamante, violin and Patricia Arauzo, piano

Fandango de la molinera and Farruca del molinero from "El sombrero de tres picos" by Manuel de Falla; ¡Viva Navarra! by Joaquín Larregla; "Zapateado" from Danzas españolas Op. 23, no 2 by Pablo Sarasate

Flamenco, other popular Spanish dances and the academic tradition of the Bolero school come together in so-called “danza española” (Spanish dance), a type of dance developed during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In this concert, the choreographies of the Ballet Nacional de España are combined with classical compositions based on traditional rhythms, featuring emblematic works such as Sarasate’s “Zapateado”.
