Lyonel Feininger's Fugue no. 1

Johann Sebastian Jazz: Alexis Delgado and Iñaki Salvador, pianos

Fugue nº 1 by Lyonel Feininger

Born into a musical family, Lyonel Feininger trained as a painter in Germany. This decision, which disappointed his father, allowed him to come into contact with Bach's organ repertoire, which came to obsess him. Between 1921 and 1927 Feininger composed his entire musical work, consisting of thirteen fugues for keyboard instruments that evoke, with an updated language, the Bachian counterpoint.
