Music in the court of Christina of Sweden

Ensemble Aurora. Enrico Gatti, violin and conductor

Works by A. Stradella and A. Corelli

After her abdication, Christina, Queen of Sweden moved to Rome and surrounded herself with intellectuals and artists. Among them were musicians and composers including Alessandro Stradella and Arcangelo Corelli, the maximum exponents of Italian music of the time. The former’s contribution was fundamental to the establishment of forms such as the cantata and the oratorio. The latter revolutionised the violin repertoire with works like his Trio Sonatas Op. 1, dedicated to the former Swedish queen.
