The Mérida Museum of Roman Art. The symbols of change (1982-1996)
Architecture in Spain. From the Transition to Uncertainty
Rafael Moneo’s Museo de Arte Romano de Mérida serves as a model of “synthesis of continuity and innovation”, as the presenter Luis Fernández-Galiano declares, for analysing the architecture of this period, which consists of the years of the presidencies of Felipe González and the celebration of the Olympic Games in Barcelona and Expo’92 in Seville. Inspired by the great maestros, the new generation of architects successfully reconciled memory and modernity, recuperating classicism and paying attention to context and symbolic value in the new urban profiles and infrastructures of cities like Barcelona, Madrid and Seville.
