Chinese and Pre-Colombian Ceramics
Isabel Cervera and Miguel Rivera Dorado
As a result of its easy use and low material cost, ceramics has left us with many valuable artistic testimonies; moreover, being made out of clay –available in all geographical regions– it is also an object of study for learning about the most diverse cultures. The Director of the Instituto Confucio de Madrid and lecturer at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Isabel Cervera, takes us on a journey through the history of China through ceramics and its uses: domestic, decorative, religious and funereal. Miguel Rivera Dorado, an archaeologist and Professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, approaches the different pre-Colombian people in order to analyse the multiplicity of styles and the workmanship that were present on the American continent. A summary of both lectures is presented.
