Lina Bo Bardi: a civilizing architect

The exhibition Lina Bo Bardi. Tupi or not tupi. Brazil, 1946–1992 proposes a dialogue between the work of Italian architect Lina Bo Bardi and the culture of nāo eruditos [non-scholarly] artists that she had been promoting since she joined the renewal of the arts in Brazil in 1946. The title of the exhibition is a phrase of the poet, essayist and playwright Oswald de Andrade, who in 1928 proposed that Brazil "cannibalize" European culture. In turn, Lina, who Caetano Veloso describes as a "civilizing" person, exercised an anthropophagy in reverse, discovering for the Brazilians themselves the cultural wealth of their country.
