The presence of the oboist Johann Christian Richter and his ensemble Cammer-Musique at the court of Augustus II the Strong in Dresden led the most important German and Italian composers to compose sonatas with great technical demands for the oboe and bassoon. A repertory written around 1720 that, in Alfredo Bernardini’s words, is music combining “the virtuosity of the allegros and the expressiveness of the adagios, always in the Italian tradition, with the more rhythmic French style of dance”.
