From Cluny to Compostela
Works by Anonymous and M. A. Parisiensis
The abbey of Cluny, founded in 910, was a powerful tool in spreading the reform promoted by the papacy. The chanting of the divine office and the solemnity of the liturgy became the axes of monastic life, and the network woven by the Cluny order, as well as the pilgrimage routes, served to spread a unified musical repertoire throughout Europe. The Psallentes ensemble traces a path that begins with examples of early polyphony from the Netherlands, includes repertoire linked to the abbey of Cluny and culminates in Santiago de Compostela.
