Northern Enchantments: Wizards, Witches and their Music

Juan Carlos Asensio presents the concert "Charms, riddles and elegies in northern Europe (8th-11th centuries)"

In the Middle Ages, most of the music that was recorded on scrolls and cantorales was of a religious nature. That is why most of the repertoires preserved today are of a sacred nature. But we still have testimonies that tell us about a world in which ancient spells, riddles and stories of a pagan nature still exist. Orally transmitted in Northern Europe, they would end up merging with the Christian religion and, in some cases, would be scattered in the margins of various manuscripts. In this presentation, Juan Carlos Asensio presents testimonies that tell us about this cosmology in full transformation.
