Schubert: Im Frühling Op. 101
Cristoph Prégardien, tenor, and Julius Drake, piano
Im Frühling Op. 101 no. 1 D 882, by Franz Schubert
In his final years, Schubert composed one of his most-loved Lieder on texts by the German romantic poet Ernst Schulze. In Im Frühling [Spring] he describes with nostalgia the walk on a valley with his beloved. Schubert uses the form of a theme with variations in a masterly way, for the only time in his Lieder.
