Lully's instrumental music
El Gran Teatro del Mundo: Miriam Jorde, oboe; Johanna Bartz, traverse; Lukas Hamberger, violin; Bruno Hurtado, viola da gamba; Bruno Helstroffer, theorbo; Julio Caballero, harpsichord
Works by J. B. Lully
Jean-Baptiste Lully monopolized the opera scene in Louis XIV's France. Together with the librettist Philippe Quinault he conceived the tragédie lyrique, in which instrumental music takes on great importance. The selection of pieces performed by El Gran Teatro del Mundo reflects the confrontation between the calm of the night and the agitation of the lovers, who find in the solitude of the night the necessary intimacy to express their feelings.
