Picasso from the present

Eugenio Carmona

Who is Picasso, why is Picasso Picasso, or how do we look at Picasso and how does Picasso look at us? Eugenio Carmona, professor of History of Art at the University of Málaga, suggests how to approach Pablo Ruiz Picasso (Málaga, 1881-Mougins, 1973) from the present. Based on the analysis of Picasso's image in various reports that have appeared in magazines such as Life, Time or Look, the lecturer aims to inscribe the attitude and creative production of the artist's last period within the currents of contemporary social, artistic and theoretical practices. It also addresses, among other issues, phenomena such as spectacularization, banalization or the globality of Picasso and his work.
