Violin virtuosity

Carla Marrero, violin

Works by H. I. F. Biber, J. S. Bach, N. Paganini, B. Bartók and É. Tanguy

With Paganini at the heart of the program, this video presents a history of violin virtuosity from the 17th century to the present day. The works of Biber and Bach use "sound trompe l'oeil" to make the ear perceive a contrapuntal writing in several voices. Bartók's work, for its part, combines references to Bach and Hungarian music, while Éric Tanguy's short Sonata, with an eclecticism based on spectralist techniques, reveals the validity of virtuosity in the instrument.
