The harpsichord suite in England
Olivier Baumont, harpsichord
Works by J. Blow, H. Purcell and G. F. Händel
Purcell's harpsichord suites (collected in A Choice Collection of Lessons, 1696) are more similar to French standards than those of his English contemporaries, such as Blow or Croft, less known on the continent. The same goes for Händel, in whose suites the composer's talent as a keyboardist and improviser and his ability to combine Italian melodicism with Germanic counterpoint are evident.
