Rousseau, the origin of melodrama

From April 7 to 11, 2021, a new edition of Melodramas, a genre that combines declamatory action and musical composition, will be held at the Fundación Juan March in three performances. In the fifth production of this format, we look back to the origins of the genre and recover Pygmalion and Ariadne in Naxos, plays with text by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and music by Georg Benda (1722-1795). Cares Alfaro is in charge of stage direction, Ernesto Arias and Celia Pérez are in charge of narration and Rosa Torres-Pardo accompanies them on piano. The projections are by Amador Artiga. The performances can be followed live on Canal March.
