Brenno Ambrosini, piano

Fantasia on themes from the opera “Moses in Egypt” by Gioachino Rossini, by Sigismond Thalberg

On 31 March 1837, Franz Liszt and Sigismond Thalberg met in a musical duel in Paris. This historic concert, partially reconstructed in this program, caused huge expectation among Parisian music lovers, who were witness to an extraordinary show of virtuosity. On this occasion, Thalberg performed this fantasy on themes from Rossini operas, reflecting his enormous talent as both a composer and performer, which explains why he was considered a worthy rival of Liszt at the time.
