Bécquer: his life, his work, his time.

Jesús Rubio Jiménez

The constant appeal of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer to the other arts surrounds his literary career, which was fuelled by his contact with painting, his participation in illustrated publications, as well as his facets as a journalist and librettist. Jesús Rubio Jiménez relates Bécquer’s literary works to two aspects that were central to the poet’s life: his trips and his personal relationships. It was his friends who, as a tribute to the artist after his premature death, published his works and reordered his poetry, leading him to be considered a Romantic legend.
