Cuarteto Bacarisse

Salvador Bacarisse: String Quartet No. 3 Op. 24

The composition of Bacarisse's Cuarteto nº 3 Op. 24 (String Quartet No. 3 Op. 24) coincided with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, in 1936. The dramatic nature of the time is reflected in the wide use of dissonance, with atonal aspirations alternating with elegiac moments of profound lyricism. In this video, the quartet can be heard together with an excerpt from the lecture given by Salvador Bacarisse Cuadrado in which he explains the connections between his father's political commitment and musical aesthetic (complete audio available at: http://digital.march.es/clamor/es/fedora/repository/atm%3A2733#flowplayer).
