Presentation of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921)
Ana Vega Toscano
Ana Vega Toscano presents, within the cycle "Melodrama and Star-system" the silent film The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, directed by Rex Ingram, based on the novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez from 1916, which related the split of a family in its French and German sides as a result of the Great War, represented with pro-Allied sympathies. It became a best-seller in the United States and its film version was the dazzling launch as a star of the Italian emigrant Rodolfo Valentino, who until then had worked as a leading man or supporting actor. Valentino introduced the archetype of the Latin Lover in the cinema, heir to Don Juan and Casanova, and excelled in the film by dancing a memorable tango with Alice Terry.
