Brahms' Symphony No. 3 Op. 90, four hands
Silke-Thora Matthies & Christian Köhn, piano four hands
“Un poco allegretto” from the Symphony no. 3 Op. 90 by Johannes Brahms (arranged by the composer)
From Brahms' Symphony No. 3, conceived in the summer of 1883, the third movement reproduced in this video has acquired notable fame. The lyrical character of a melody with clear Brahmsian strokes and the soft accompaniment provided by unfolded chords give this movement an unforgettable character. Of all the symphonic corpus that Brahms himself arranged for four-hand piano, this is one of the movements that best suits the possibilities of the piano. An attentive ear may be able to perceive the parallels with the final piano opuses that Brahms would compose a few years later.
