Presentation of I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932)
"I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang" (1932), by Mervyn Le Roy, is contextualized between the silent cinema and the modern one, in the second Hollywood’s Golden Age. The 29’s starts to put speech on films. One of the firsts to follow this trend was Howard Hawks with "Scarface". The distinction between genres and scene is also developed. Plots which move the audience, their feelings and intelligence, are intensely considered; such is the case of this film; the 29’s crash, the terrible American economic situation, migration, poorness… and finally Rusbel and his new deal and the industrial development. All of this is projected on the film and the main character, a First World War’s hero, who finds no job and whom the legal systems transforms into a fugitive. All the film is based on a real case, which makes the story strongly moving for the audience.
