Josef Albers in Spain: before and after
Laura Martínez de Guereñu
Laura Martínez de Guereñu reconstructs Josef Albers’s trip through Europe with Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky during the summer of 1929, when he travelled to Barcelona to visit the exhibition halls and the German pavilion designed by Mies van der Rohe for the International Exhibition. The architectural inspiration he gained from this trip became apparent in his photographs and in a new type of painting on glass with a grey surface.
