The most famous numbers from the best zarzuelas were soon subjected to many arrangements, often for peculiar ensembles such as the sextet consisting of two violins, viola, cello, double bass and piano. The Ensamble de Madrid, a pioneering ensemble in the revival of zarzuelas in a reduced format that were very often performed in cafés at the time, presents two of the best-known pieces in the history of zarzuela in an arrangement for piano sextet.
