Is that which can just be made out beyond the outer reaches still life?
José Manuel Caballero Bonald
"Is that which can just be made out beyond the outer reaches still life?". Thus concludes José Manuel Caballero Bonald his last poem "Entreguerras" and his participation in “Intellectual Autobiography” in which, in conversation with Julio Neira, he discusses his career as a writer and (re)reader. He recalls his childhood fascination initially with Espronceda and subsequently with Juan Ramón Jiménez and Gerardo Diego; three names that marked the beginning of his vocation as a poet. He emphasises the aesthetic pleasure of reading and conceives literature as an interpretation of reality. He also speaks about his work in other fields and claims to be particularly proud of his what he has done in regard to the compilation and revival of flamenco.
