“Astor Piazzolla, a revolutionary of the Argentine tango, composed his Estaciones porteñas (Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) between 1964 and 1970, coinciding with the Vivaldi revival in which The Four Seasons was heard over and over again. The syncretic nature of the work is evident in that, without losing the rhythmic essence of the tango, it incorporates concertante passages rooted in the Baroque, jazz harmonies and sound resources associated with the avant-garde.
