Beethoven’s Symphony No.1, chamber arrangement

Trío Arbós and Álvaro Octavio, flute

Symphony Nº 1 in C Major Op. 21. Arrangement for quartet (violin, cello, flute and piano) by Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1826)

Beethoven’s symphonic adventure began in 1800 with the premiere of the Symphony No. 1 in Vienna. Received as an innovative work, Hummel arranged it for an unusual quartet consisting of violin, flute, cello and piano; an arrangement aimed at amateur performers that emphasizes the piano part and relegates the rest of the instruments to a secondary role.
